Configuring your app to open from magic links

You may find that clicking the magic link sent to your email opens Beacon in your mobile browser instead of the app. This guide will walk you through the steps to ensure the app opens instead.

Note: For Android some of the steps or the appearance may slightly differ depending on the device and Android version. Regardless, it should be enough to give the general idea to solve the issue.

How to Configure Your Device

Email Client Security

Android

Navigate to the app icon from the main screen or from the apps list screen. Then tap and hold on it.

Select App info.

Scroll down and select Open by default.

Select Add link.

Check the checkbox for beacon.hirebotics.io.

You should now see beacon.hirebotics.io checked in your settings screen.

That's it! From now on, clicking the magic link should send you into the app.

iOS

Apple devices don't need any configuration. If you're experiencing issues, try checking your email security or reinstalling the application.

Working with Email Clients and Security

Using a corporate email client like Outlook or email security software such as Barracuda and Avanan can also cause issues. These services provide link protection that masks all links for incoming emails, which is generally good, but it prevents your mobile device from detecting it as a link to our app.

To confirm this is an issue, copy the magic link from your email (from mobile or web) and paste it into any form of text editor or a draft email (anywhere you can actually see the link text). A valid link will appear in this format:

https://beacon.hirebotics.io/?challengeName=CUSTOM_CHALLENGE&correlationId=<some-text>&session=<some-text>&username=<some-text>&answer=<some-text>&email=<some-text>&magic=1

If anything precedes the "beacon.hirebotics.io", then it will prevent your mobile device from opening in the app.

Examples include:

To resolve the issue, you (or your IT team) will have to make an exception through those services for our domain: "hirebotics.io". After adding the exception, the links we send to your email should be unaltered and allow your device to open it in our app.
