Beacon Diagnostics Magic Script (FANUC)

Run the Beacon Diagnostics magic script from a USB drive to collect logs from your FANUC robot for Beacon Support.

Written by Doug Ayers

For security, never use a USB drive or files from untrusted sources. If in doubt, contact your IT department or Beacon Support.

Beacon Support may ask you to run a magic script to collect robot diagnostics. The diagnostics help Beacon Support troubleshoot network, software update, and other issues. This guide shows you how to run the Beacon Diagnostics magic script on your FANUC robot.

Before You Start

  • Have a computer to download the magic script files.

  • Have a USB drive to transfer the files to the robot.

  • Have a flathead screwdriver to unlock the cabinet door latches.

Download the Magic Script Files

  1. If a file opens in your browser instead of downloading, right-click the link. Then choose Save Link As…. The menu name may differ by browser.

  2. Copy both files to your USB drive.

  3. Remove any other files from the USB drive.

Power Off the Robot

Make sure the robot is stopped and not playing a part.

  1. Find the main power disconnect breaker (a rotary dial) on the front of the cabinet. Turn it from ON to OFF.

Open the Robot Cabinet

  1. Find the two quarter-turn latches on the front of the cabinet. Unlock them with the flathead screwdriver.

  2. Gently turn the main power disconnect breaker to the left and hold it. This releases the cabinet doors.

  3. Pull the doors open. Then let go of the breaker.

Collect the Diagnostics

  1. Find the Beacon device inside the cabinet. It is a black, rectangular plastic box on the cabinet floor. A white USB-to-Ethernet adapter is plugged into it.

  2. Insert your USB drive into an open USB port on the Beacon device.

Leave the white USB-to-Ethernet adapter plugged in.

  3. Wait one minute.

The script runs on its own and saves the diagnostics to your USB drive. The Beacon device stays powered while the main breaker is off.

  4. Remove the USB drive.

Close the Robot Cabinet

  1. Close the cabinet doors. You may need to push gently until both latches catch.

  2. Lock the quarter-turn latches with the flathead screwdriver.

You can power the robot back on now. The diagnostics are already on your USB drive.

Share the Diagnostics with Beacon Support

  1. Insert the USB drive into a computer. You should see a zip file with a name starting with diagnostic-.

No zip file on the drive? Tap the Support menu in Beacon to send us a message. If you see a diagnostic folder, attach the files inside it.

  2. Send the zip file to Beacon Support one of two ways:
