If your Cobot Welder can't connect to a Miller Auto Deltaweld 350 power source, the welder's IP address may not match the one the robot is set to use. This guide shows you how to set it.
You do this from a laptop, plugged into the front of the welder. Every step is on the laptop or the welder — nothing happens on the teach pendant.
Before You Start
Have a laptop with a web browser — you open the welder's setup pages on it.
Have an Ethernet cable to run from the laptop to the front of the welder.
Have a USB-to-Ethernet adapter if your laptop has no Ethernet port.
Connect Your Laptop to the Welder
Plug an Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the front of the welder.
Plug the other end of the cable into your laptop.
Turn off Wi-Fi on your laptop.
The connection to the welder may not work with Wi-Fi on.
Give Your Laptop a Fixed IP Address
Your laptop normally gets its IP address automatically. This welder needs your laptop on a specific IP address, so you set one by hand. You undo this change at the end.
Change the settings for the port you plugged the cable into — not Wi-Fi. If your laptop lists more than one Ethernet connection, unplug the cable and watch which one changes.
Follow the steps for your laptop below.
On Windows
Select the Start button, then select Settings.
Select Network & internet, then select Ethernet.
Under IP assignment, select Edit.
Set IP assignment to Manual.
Turn on IPv4.
Enter:

Select Save. Your laptop is now on the same network as the welder.
On a Mac
Open the Apple menu, then select System Settings.
Select Network, then select the Ethernet connection for the port you plugged the cable into. It may be named for the adapter you plugged in, like
USB 10/100/1000 LANorAX88179A.Select Details.
Select TCP/IP.
Set Configure IPv4 to Manually.
Enter:
IP address:
169.253.1.33Subnet mask:
255.255.255.0Router: leave blank
Select OK. Your laptop is now on the same network as the welder.
Open the Welder's Setup Pages
Turn on the welder. Wait until the display stops showing
Boot.Open a web browser on the laptop.
Type
169.253.1.32in the address bar, then press Enter.Enter the password
cobots, then select Login.
Turn Off the EIP Setting
Your Deltaweld talks to the robot over Modbus. It does not use EIP.
Under Auto Deltaweld Configuration, select Edit.
Under Robot Interface Configuration, select Edit.
Under Interface Configuration, set Modbus to Enable and set EIP to Disable.
Select Save.
Set the Welder's IP Address
Scroll to the bottom of the same page to find the Network Configuration (Back panel) section.
In the four IP Address boxes, enter
192,168,181, and151— one number per box.
In the four Subnet Mask boxes, enter
255,255,255, and0— one number per box.
Select Save.
Restart the Welder
The welder needs a restart before the new IP address takes effect.
Turn the welder off. Wait until all the lights on the front go out.
Turn the welder back on. Wait until the display stops showing
Boot.
How to Verify
The green lights on the front of the welder come on, and the display shows numbers instead of Boot.
To confirm the robot and the welder are talking, check the Modbus connection on the teach pendant — the dot next to the Modbus signal turns green. The steps are in Troubleshooting Fieldbus Communication Loss with Miller Auto Deltaweld 350.
Undo the Changes on Your Laptop
The fixed IP address is only for talking to the welder. These steps put your laptop back on your normal network.
Unplug the Ethernet cable from the welder and from your laptop.
If you borrowed the adapter from the robot cabinet, plug it back in.
The light on the adapter should be on or flashing. If it is not, unplug the adapter from the USB port and plug it back in.
Set the IP address back to automatic:
On Windows, set IP assignment to Automatic (DHCP).
On a Mac, set Configure IPv4 to Using DHCP.
Turn Wi-Fi back on.
Troubleshooting
The setup page doesn't load. Check that Wi-Fi is off on the laptop. Check that you changed the settings for the port you plugged the cable into. Check that the cable is plugged in at both ends.
