For security, never use a USB drive or files from untrusted sources. If in doubt, contact your IT department or Beacon Support.

The Beacon URCap lets you program your robot with a supported device without robotic knowledge. Occasionally, you may need to manually install the Beacon URCap when upgrading to newer versions or when asked by Beacon Support.

A USB drive, also known as a memory stick, thumb drive, or flash drive, is a portable device used to store and transfer computer files.

Install Beacon URCap for PolyScope 5

In 2025, Universal Robot's introduced PolyScope X, a new major version to their operating system as a successor to PolyScope 5. PolyScope X requires new controller hardware. This section is specific to PolyScope 5.

  1. From a computer, reference the PolyScope 5 Version Support Matrix and download the appropriate Beacon URCap version.

  2. Save the Beacon URCap to a USB drive.

  3. Remove any other files from the USB drive.

  4. Insert your USB drive into the port at the top of your robot's teach pendant.

  5. On the teach pendant at the top-right, tap to open the menu.

  6. Tap Settings.

  7. Tap System.

  8. Tap URCaps.

  9. Tap the plus icon (+) to add a URCap.

  10. Navigate into the location of your USB drive. It may be named usbdisk.

  11. Select the Beacon URCap file, then tap Open.

  12. Tap Restart.

Install Beacon URCap for PolyScope X

In 2025, Universal Robot's introduced PolyScope X, a new major version to their operating system as a successor to PolyScope 5. PolyScope X requires new controller hardware. This section is specific to PolyScope X.

  1. From a computer, reference the PolyScope X Version Support Matrix and download the appropriate Beacon URCap version.

  2. Save the Beacon URCap to a USB drive.

  3. Remove any other files from the USB drive.

  4. Insert your USB drive into the port at the top of your robot's teach pendant.

  5. On the teach pendant at the top-left, tap to open the menu, then tap System Manager.

  6. Tap URCaps, tap Unlock, and enter the password.

  7. Tap + URCap.

  8. Select the Beacon URCap file, then tap Confirm.

  9. Tap Install.

  10. Wait for the install process to complete.

  11. Tap Application, tap Communication.

  12. Under Robot section, tap Tool IO, scroll right to the Tool Output section, and ensure the Tool Output is set to 12V to provide power to the puck.

  13. Tap Application, tap Operator Screen.

  14. On the right-side of the screen, tap Operator Screen and choose Beacon.

  15. On the left-side of the screen, tap Operator.

  16. Tap to open the menu, then tap Reload.

  17. Tap Reload.
