How to Install the Beacon URCap on Your Robot

Learn how to download and install the Beacon URCap on your robot

For security, never use a USB drive or files from untrusted sources. If in doubt, contact your IT department or Beacon Support.

The Beacon URCap lets you program your Cobot Welder with a supported device without robotic knowledge.

Terminology

Before we start, let's review some terminology used in this article.

Term

Definition

URCap

A URCap is a Java-based plugin that integrates with PolyScope for Universal Robots.

USB Drive

A USB drive, also known as a memory stick, thumb drive, or flash drive, is a portable device used to store and transfer computer files.

Download the Beacon URCap to a USB Drive

From a computer, download the Beacon URCap and save it to a USB drive. Ensure no files other than beacon.urcap is saved to the USB drive.

Install the URCap

Insert your USB drive into the port at the top of your robot's teach pendant.

On the teach pendant, tap to open the menu.

Tap Settings.

Tap System.

Tap URCaps.

Tap the plus icon (+) to add a URCap.

Navigate into the location of your USB drive. It may be named usbdisk.

Select beacon.urcap, then tap Open.

In the Active URCaps section, you should now see "Beacon" displayed. Tap Restart.

Congratulations, you've just installed the Beacon URCap.
