Universal Robots uses different passwords to secure various functions of your robot. When first using the robot, or after updating the robot's operating system, you may be required to reset the passwords.

Term | Definition |
Administrator Password | Use this password to change the security configuration of the system, including network access. The Admin password is used for the root user account on the Linux system running on the robot, which may be needed in some network use cases such as SSH or SFTP. |
Operational Mode Password | Use this password to switch between Manual Mode and Automatic Mode. May also be referred to as the Operator Password. |

How to Manage Passwords in PolyScope 5
In 2025, Universal Robot's introduced PolyScope X, a new major version to their operating system as a successor to PolyScope 5. PolyScope X requires new controller hardware. This section is specific to PolyScope 5.
Administrator Password
This password cannot be reset if forgotten. Keep a copy of it in a safe place. If locked out, the robot's SD card must be reflashed with risk of data loss.
On the teach pendant at the top-right, tap
to open the menu.
Tap Settings.
In the Password section, choose Admin.
For Current password, enter your current password if one has been set. Otherwise, use the default password of either
easybot
orbeaconbot
. Enter your preferred password in the New password and Confirm new password fields, then tap Apply.
Operator Password
On the teach pendant at the top-right, tap
