Registering a robot creates a new robot record in the Beacon app. Newly registered robots start with no part data, so you will need to teach new parts.

If you have previously registered then deactivated a robot's serial number and you want to reuse that robot along with any taught parts, see How to Reactivate a Robot.

Overview

To register your robot with Beacon, you'll navigate on the teach pendant to locate a registration code, then enter the code into the Beacon app on your device. Your device and the robot will communicate over the internet to complete the registration.

Teach Pendant

In 2025, Universal Robot's introduced PolyScope X, a new major version to their operating system as a successor to PolyScope 5. PolyScope X requires new controller hardware. See the appropriate section below for how to obtain a registration code for the PolyScope version of your robot.

PolyScope 5

On the teach pendant, navigate to Installation > URCaps > Beacon.

You should see a six-digit registration code. The code changes about every 10 minutes. You'll need this code later.

Don't see the Beacon URCap? See Install Beacon URCap on Your Robot.

Robot not online or don't see the code? See Troubleshooting Network Issues.

PolyScope X

On the teach pendant, navigate to Operator.

You should see a six-digit registration code. The code changes about every 10 minutes. You'll need this code later.

Beacon App

From the Beacon app on your device, tap the avatar icon to open the side menu.

Under the Teams section, select the team where to add your robot.

Don't see your team? Tap the magnifying glass πŸ” to search for the team. If you know that the team exists but you don't see it then ask your administrator to invite you to the team. If the team doesn't exist then create a new team.

Select Robots in the bottom tab bar.

Tap the add icon (+) in the bottom-right of the screen.

Give the robot a name, enter the registration code displayed on the teach pendant, then tap Create Robot.

Congratulations, you've now linked your robot to your organization.

Important

It may take several seconds for the registration to complete. Your robot will install any Beacon firmware updates, and if you're reactivating a robot it will also download any parts and playlists.
