The Beacon app and your robot require internet access. We strongly recommend a hardline ethernet connection as it provides the most reliable connection. Below you can find information on networking requirements and how to verify your internet connection.
In this article, you'll learn:
Internet Firewall Requirements
If your company uses a firewall then ensure you provide outbound access to the following domains and ports. Beacon does not require inbound ports to be open.
Most customers consult their IT department to ensure proper network access.
Minimally, the hirebotics domains must be allowed. For Beacon In-App Support then the intercom domains also must be allowed.
The asterisk in the domains denotes a wildcard which means to allow outbound access to all sub-domains. For example, *
.hirebotics.io
allows both api
.hirebotics.io
and files
.hirebotics.io
and any other sub-domain.

How to Configure Network Settings in PolyScope 5
In 2025, Universal Robot's introduced PolyScope X, a new major version to their operating system as a successor to PolyScope 5. PolyScope X requires new controller hardware. This section is specific to PolyScope 5.
On the teach pendant at the top-right, tap
to open the menu.
Tap Settings.
Tap System, tap Network, choose DHCP network method, then tap Apply.
If you see the message Network is connected then the robot has a valid network connection. It does not, however, verify the outbound firewall rules.
Unless your IT department has instructed you otherwise then select DHCP network method. Using a Static Address requires guidance from your IT department.
