After registering a robot, you may need to deactivate it from the Beacon platform. For example, when replacing the physical robot due to repairs, to transfer ownership of the robot to another organization, or after upgrading from the PolyScope 5 controller to the PolyScope X controller.
To transfer a robot to another team or physical location within your organization, see How to Assign a Robot to a Team instead.
In this article, you'll learn:
What to Know Before Deactivate a Robot
Deactivating a robot deprovisions its serial number from the Beacon app, allowing that physical robot to be registered in the same or a different organization.
For a robot connected to the internet, all of its parts, part history, and playlist data are saved on Beacon servers and are available again if you reactivate the robot in your organization.
For a robot without internet connectivity, all of its parts, part history, and playlist data that have not yet synced to Beacon's servers are deleted because they only exist on that robot. Any unsynced parts will need to be created again if you reactivate the robot.
When to Deactivate a Robot
Here are some common use cases for when to deactivate a robot in Beacon:
If you need to replace the physical robot, you can deactivate the robot record in Beacon, then reactivate it with the replacement robot.
If you are sending the physical robot to another company, for example if you are returning a rental or are transferring ownership.
If you are switching the robot's controller from PolyScope 5 to PolyScope X, deactivate the robot record in Beacon, then reactivate it after the hardware is switched.
